Semiotics

Semiotics
semiotics is the study of signs, also of anything that stands or represents something else
when we read pictures we try to and meaning to try and make sense of the image, the media relies on us doing this so that they can take shortcuts in advertising and many other forms of media

Denotations = the literal thing we see when we look at an image

Connotations= what we perceive from an image

 For example, the color red presents connotations off,
Anger
Pashion
Blood
Hate
Love
Communism
Stopping
Danger
Evil

  1. D a crooked crown. C shows the corrupt and broken concept of beauty.
  2. D a lighter. C shows control and power as she is the one holding it 
  3. D only on the character in the poster. C shows that she is the main character and that the producers want us to focus on her or her distance and isolation from other characters in the show.
  4. D mainly pinks and purple colors used. C show femininity and a flirty, playful side to the character
